The government has announced that it has shelved the new "PBS" due to come into force in January 2021. This is good and bad news - its good news as it excluded all the low paid heroes in the NHS and shops who Priti Patel said had no place in the UK and without whom the UK would be in deep trouble. I posted a photo of a client of mine, a migrant doctor who has volunteered to work in an ICU even though he does not have to, to help out with the crisis, while he would meet Priti Patel's highly skilled migrants, those low skilled migrants, who would have been excluded, including by her own admission likely her parents, are now vital to the NHS and also working in supermarkets and corner shops around the UK ensuring that the NHS continues to function and that the nation can continue to eat. It is my experience that many migrants work in shops and have done so for years.
It is clear that the citizens of the UK owe a debt to the people who are putting their lives on their line ought not be thrown out when the crisis is over, this would be a travesty of justice. It might be thought that this was obvious and that the government would behave with some degree of integrity, however following the Windrush scandal and the ETS mess it would be rash to expect the HO to act with any sort of fairness.
It seems to me that any new form of PBS must make provision for the low skilled migrants who keep this country functioning, there are current over 13% of the NHS staff who are migrants and over 20,000 from India alone.
