Considered by many to be Judy Garland's finest hour on television, this episode of The Jack Paar Show, taped on December 2, 1962 (for broadcast on December 7, 1962) features Judy and her recent co-star, Robert Goulet. Judy is at the top of her game here, in looks, voice, and storytelling abilities. The Judy Garland Experience is proud to bring you the best quality version of this beloved performance known to exist. Donated to TJGE Library by Garland collector extraordinaire, Tom Garofalo, this same version has been requested by the Paley Center to be a part of their permanent collection, and The Judy Garland Experience is thrilled to bring this to people who don't have access to the television museum. Fuzzy pictured and incomplete versions of this show have been available to fans for years, but this is the first time the complete show has been made available to the public in this quality. This is even better than the version Parr himself toured with in the early 90's! Judy Garland's appearance on this program was so successful that less than three weeks after it aired she signed a 24 million dollar contract to star in her own television series. 24 million in 1962 dollars, let that sink in. Judy sings two solos and one duet with Goulet, she also shares anecdotes about vaudeville, MGM, and concert mishaps, as well as hilarious stories about her celebrity friends Orson Welles, Lana Turner, and others. Proving why no less than Lucille Ball proclaimed Garland to be the funniest woman in Hollywood. Mr. Garofalo has already uploaded two of Judy's songs from this program to his own YouTube channel, and they have been downloaded often and reposted by others. But this, and the Paley Center copy, are the only official complete versions available that come directly from the Garofalo master. As for the show, Paar is charming, Goulet is dreamy, but it is Judy who sparkles and oozes charisma like no star before or since. Jack Paar pretty much sums it up himself when he tells Judy, not that he doesn't belong on the same stage as her but "I don't even belong in the same building with you!" I truly hope you enjoy the show, you'll be hard pressed to find finer entertainment.
