During circle time at PTN, each individual - including children, assistants, therapists, and teacher - sit in a circle formation. The teacher leads the session by presenting two song cards to the class, and a child is given the opportunity to come forward and make a choice between the two songs. The child then walks back to their seat, and the classroom as a whole joins in song and gestures! When the song concludes, the child comes forward and hands the song card back to the teacher, and a new child is given the opportunity to choose the next song.
Circle time presents children with the opportunity to make an independent choice, to sing familiar or novel words, perform familiar or novel hand gestures, and develop their social skills by interacting with the staff and peers! The children also strengthen their ability to sit independently in a classroom setting, whether they are using a standard chair, a carpet square, or blocks.
Don’t be afraid to act out the gestures with your child and follow along with the lyrics! We hope you enjoy our online circle time series, including some of our most popular songs!
