Countless compounding reasons from the rapid displacement of labor by automation to the sharp upward increase in cost of living due to depletion of easier-to-extract resources and growing depending on fewer more difficult ones. Life has quickly become more expensive and difficult to pay through than the previous period of relative prosperity (from the post-war boom in the 50s up until the early/mid 2000s) , and will continue getting worse.
