Multiple sclerosis is the most common neurodegenerative disease that affects young adults. It is thought to be an autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune cells target the brain and spinal cord but the underlying cause remains uncertain and the condition has variable clinical sequelae.
In this fascinating lecture, Professor Trevor Kilpatrick will cover how we have approached and what we have achieved with respect to understanding who is susceptible to MS and how to prevent it. It will also explore our capacity to detect and impede neurodegeneration and to repair the nervous system damaged by MS.
