Growth starts in the mind and our knowledge is as the result of what we have fed our mind with over time. God has given us the capacity to acquire knowledge of God for growth.
Your mind is that channel through which your spirit impresses the knowledge of God. so that you can act it out. Spiritual activities aid growth on the condition that it is governed by knowledge the measure of maturity is not the fact that you are able to perform a miracle but the knowledge of God is pervasive. the mind of God created everything that we see.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me. seeing that hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.- Hosea 4:6
