Techniques to Stop Panic Attacks - FIVE Techniques to prevent anxiety (in 5 Minutes) I have suffered with Panic Attack episodes for a long time. Over the years I have worked out different ways to stop panic attacks from progressing and finding calm again. My Panic Attacks would usually happen in public spaces and as anxiety of other people's judgement of me was a big trigger, I needed effective techniques to stop panic attacks that were subtle.

"54321 Senses" relocates you back in reality by asking you to use your 5 senses to interact with the space around you. Panic Attacks can leave you feeling detached and this technique seeks to keep you present and grounded back in reality.

"Breathe for 15" is an easy to remember slow breathing exercise that hinges on a 5-second inhale, 5-second hold and a 5-second exhale. Slow controlled breathing can help counter panic before it takes over.

"Progressive Relaxation" encourages you to visit different muscles in your body and relax them one-by-one. A relaxed body is more difficult to panic. A methodical approach means you have cognitive stimulation alongside relaxing physical side effects; removing you from the panic attack.

"Find the Pulse" is a technique I use any time I feel anxious. You simply seek the pulse on each digit of your hands and realign your breathing and nervous system.

"Mindful Mantra" is a no-fuss process to encourage use of mantra to stop panic attacks. This is totally subtle and visualised rather than spoken, alongside some calm breathing techniques.
