First Jay-Z emphasize on the mindset, one must have in order for them to be successful and can be summarized this way;
Good leaders learn from their own mistakes. However,
Great leaders learn from other people mistakes.
Jay z said I quote
“When you’re the new kid, listen and learn before you try to change things”
As leaders, we may feel inclined to come into a business or industry and immediately make changes and switch things up. But, it’s more important to learn about the business and its people before we aim to make changes. Doing so will make your changes embraced more by the people around you.
In addition to that, Jay Z tells the story from early on in his career when he would listen to other producers and rappers and absorb their work like a sponge. Never giving his opinion, he simply sat and learned. He understood that he didn’t know much about the music industry yet, and for him to yo be successful, he had to learn from people that were already successful.
Also personally believe that your environment is stronger than your will power therefore choosing your friend carefully is a foundation to your success. Your life like a thermostat, and your environment control the temperature.
If the mindset of people hanging around you, are set at 30’ then that is where the degree of your life will be. For Jay-Z to consistently win in business and build his empire, he had to surround himself with people that elevated the degree of life and thinking to greater level.
