SH'MOT / Exodus 12:1 Now Adonai spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying, 2 “This month will mark the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year for you. 3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month, each man is to take a lamb for his family one lamb for the household...5 Your lamb is to be without blemish, a year old male. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 You must watch over it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to slaughter it at twilight [bein ha'ar'bayim בין בערבים "between the evenings"]. 7 They are to take the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the crossbeam of the houses where they will eat it. TLV

RASHI: in the afternoon: Heb. bein ha'ar'bayim בין בערבים. From six hours [after sunrise] and onward is called בין בערבים, literally, between the two evenings, for the sun is inclined toward the place where it sets to become darkened. It seems to me that the expression בין בערבים denotes those hours between the darkening of the day and the darkening of the night. The darkening of the day is at the beginning of the seventh hour, when the shadows of evening decline, and the darkening of the night at the beginning of the night. Erev ערב is an expression of evening and darkness, like “all joy is darkened (v’ar’bah וערבה) ” (Isaiah 24:11). — [from Mechilta]

1. THE PASSOVER LAMB MUST BE SACRIFICED BETWEEN THE EVENINGS
VAYIKRA / Leviticus 23:5 During the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, is Adonai’s Passover. 6 On the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Matzot to Adonai. For seven days you are to eat matzah. 7 On the first day you are to have a holy convocation and you should do no regular work. 8 Instead you are to present an offering made by fire to Adonai for seven days. On the seventh day is a holy convocation, when you are to do no regular work.” 9 Adonai spoke to Moses saying: 10 “Speak to Bnei-Yisrael and tell them: When you have come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you are to bring the omer of the firstfruits of your harvest to the kohen. 11 He is to wave the omer before Adonai, to be accepted for you. On the morrow after the Shabbat, the kohen is to wave it. TLV

RASHI: on the day after the rest day: Mimahorat HaShabbat ממהרת שבת - On the day after the first holy day of Passover, [since a holy festival day is also Shabbat שבת, rest day , in Scripture]. For if you say [that it means] the “Sabbath of Creation” [i.e., the actual Sabbath, the seventh day of the week], you would not know which one. - [Men. 66a]

YOCHANAN / John 19:14 It was the Day of Preparation for Passover, about the sixth hour [12pm]. And Pilate said to the Judean leaders, “Behold, your king!” 15 They shouted back, “Take Him away! Take Him away! Execute Him!”… 31 It was the Day of Preparation, and the next day was a FESTIVAL SHABBAT [KJV: “HIGH DAY”]...

2. THE PASSOVER LAMB MUST BE SACRIFICED BEFORE A HIGH HOLY DAY
YOCHANAN / John 12:1 Six days before Passover, Yeshua came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Yeshua had raised from the dead...12 The next day, the huge crowd that had come up for the feast heard that Yeshua was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting, “‘Hoshia-na! Baruch ha-ba b’shem Adonai! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ The King of Israel!” 14 Finding a young donkey, Yeshua sat on it, as it is written, 15 “Fear not, Daughter of Zion! Look! Your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.” TLV

MATTITYAHU / Matthew 12:40 For just as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

3. THE PASSOVER LAMB OF GOD FULFILLS THE SCRIPTURES
MATTITYAHU / Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I came to abolish the Torah or the Prophets! I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill...19b...whoever keeps and teaches them, this one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. TLV

JEWISH TIME VS. ROMAN TIME:

The same night that Yeshua had his Passover meal with his disciples is the same 24 hour period from evening to morning, in which he became the Sacrificed Lamb of God. The story of Jonah in the belly of the “big fish” would be connected to Gentile timing in Nineveh, versus Jewish timing in Israel.....He would, therefore, have a window between sundown on Saturday until Sunday morning before dawn to resurrect...
