He and his wife, Ashlyn Lai, are safe and secure in the Peruvian mountain city of Cusco. Their reason for seeking a way out of the country goes beyond just returning to Rhode Island.
Weng doubles as a general practitioner with Providence Community Health Centers and as a clinical assistant professor of family medicine at Brown University. His priority is resuming care for his 2,000 patients at one of PCHC’s 11 locations, particularly as the coronavirus continues its relentless spread.
“I don’t have a computer,” Weng said. “I only have a cell phone. I can’t provide any care to my patients at all. I know we have a shortage in our clinic already. I think that would be my main concern.”
